From Dr. Natalie Meiri’s clinical pearl stories… Chiropractor West Palm Beach: Relief from Dermatitis and Neck Pain With Acupuncture
This is my clinical pearl story about Chiropractor West Palm Beach: Relief from Dermatitis and Neck Pain With Acupuncture. She was a 55 year old female patient. Her chief complaints were neck pain and dermatitis. To be HIPAA compliant, I will call her Melba instead of her real name.
Melba’s neck pain had come on a few years ago. She had injured it in a skiing accident. Melba had been seeing a chiropractor about her neck up until a few weeks ago. She had seen some results, but did not see a complete resolution. Furthermore, she was looking for a different approach for her chiropractic care which led her to me.
Additionally, the dermatitis on her chest had come on recently. She thought it was Allergic Contact Dermatitis (allergic reaction to a substance that causes redness, swelling, and itchy bumps) to a chemical. And when she went to see her dermatologist, they had confirmed it.
Since Melba had seen an acupuncturist in the past, she knew that it might help her skin condition. She wanted to avoid corticosteroids (for skin condition). Therefore, she decided to try a course of acupuncture with me first for both complaints.
Melba’s Examination at Meiri Chiropractic
Upon examination, Melba tested positive for her neck condition. Her x-rays taken at the previous chiropractor’s office showed degenerative arthritis (osteoarthritis). Upon inspection, Melba did have dermatitis on her entire anterior (front) chest and neck. Also, Melba brought in a report from her dermatologist visit for my file.
Melba’s Acupuncture Treatments at Meiri Chiropractic
Melba started a course of acupuncture care for both her neck and dermatitis. Her acupuncture treatments consisted of the insertion of very thin metal needles. These were inserted into the skin and underlying tissues.
Indeed, Melba reported that she was pain free after a few sessions for her neck! And her dermatitis was disappearing as well.
Finally, it was important for her to avoid the allergen. This was an important step. Of course, she utilized natural emollients/ moisturizers to keep her skin stay hydrated and prevent dryness.

What are chemical allergies?
Chemical allergies affect one’s quality of life and can reduce productivity at work, school and home. Also, when not addressed properly, chemical allergies can lead to secondary problems such as rhinitis, contact dermatitis (swelling and irritation of skin) and asthma.
Chemical allergy describes the adverse health effects resulting from exposure to a chemical. For some people, certain foreign chemicals may elicit an immune response. Therefore, the body produces antibodies to fight a foreign invader. In this case, the invader would be the chemical.
Practically any substance can lead to a reaction. And some of the chemicals that frequently cause allergies include:
- air pollution (gas, oil, or coal fumes)
- formaldehyde (used in the production of fertilizer, paper, plywood etc)
- chlorine (used as disinfectant)
- phenol also called carbolic acid (found in some house hold cleaners and mouth wash)
- insecticides
- various disinfectants
- paint strippers/ paint
- hair sprays
- household cleaning products
- metals such as nickel, mercury, chrome, and beryllium.
CHEMICAL ALLERGIES- Signs/Symptoms:
Chemical allergies often manifest themselves as skin reactions. Certainly, there are many more allergic reactions to foreign chemicals including: watery eyes, ringing in the ears, stuffy nose, diarrhea, nausea, upset stomach, asthma, bronchitis, arthritis, fatigue, eczema, intestinal disorders, depression, and headache. Additionally, you may have a reaction immediately after exposure to a chemical allergen. However, it may take up to twenty-four hours to manifest. Moreover, you may need to seek medical help with a severe allergic response.

How Does Acupuncture Help Skin Conditions and Neck Pain?
Studies show acupuncture increases blood flow and hydration to the skin after a single session. Participants had improvement in skin conditions.
Traditional Chinese Acupuncture (TCM) helps treat many conditions and provide pain relief. However, China has had a long tradition of skin rejuvenation that stretches back many years as well. It has been utilized for at least a millennium.
Pertaining to the neck, Neuroscientists at Harvard Medical School looked at the underlying neuroanatomy of acupuncture. Specifically, that acupuncture activates a nerve signaling pathway. The signaling affects the function of other parts of the body, including organs (and neuromusculoskeletal body parts).

Acupuncture has been used for over 4000 years to treat pain and other health problems safely and effectively. The acupuncture treatment stimulates the imbalanced pathways called meridians. This activates the body’s natural healing abilities. Ultimately, this brings balance back to your body. Indeed, Acupuncture has a beneficial effect when treating many diseases and painful conditions.
